Farming
Farming involves growing crops from seeds for selling, gifting, cooking and crafting.
Getting started
Clear the farmland with Cleansing Balm, till it with a Basic Gardening Hoe, and plant seeds suited to the season. Water planted crops each day so they can grow that night. See planting for the complete steps and growth rules.

Skill levels and benefits
Farming level contributes to crop quality rather than growth speed. The quality calculation uses one percentage point at levels 0 and 1, then the level number from level 2 onward. Harvesting awards Farming EXP; level checks run at midnight. See Skill Levels for cumulative EXP thresholds and Crops for growth, watering and quality rules.

Travelling Merchant
The Travelling Merchant buys 2 random crop types at 50% more than an ordinary shop. They visit the Town Outskirts (West) every Saturday and Sunday.
Crops are plants grown from seeds, and after being harvested they can be sold, given as gifts to villagers, or used as ingredients in recipes (both cooking and crafting). Each crop has its own specifications and can be seasonal or multi-seasonal. When the season changes (after the 28th day), if the crop does not belong to the new season, it will wither and die.
<onlyinclude>
Crows
Crops can be eaten by Crows when they are growing on a plot where there is no Scarecrow within range. Crows will not eat fully grown crops. Different scarecrows have different percentages of chance to scare away crows.
Planting
At the beginning of the game, all tiles are occupied by Ghost Tentacles. It will be necessary to use several Cleansing Balm
to remove them.
Fallow (untilled) farmland must be prepared with the Basic Gardening Hoe
before being fertilized or receiving seeds. A tile can only be watered (using the Basic Watering Can
) after seeds have been planted.
Seeds and fertilizer are placed on a tilled tile individually, and as tool upgrades are obtained, it becomes possible to perform these actions on multiple tiles at the same time.
Grow times refer to the number of nights required for a crop to grow, and therefore do not include the day the seeds were planted. If planted on the first day of a season, a 4-day crop will be ready for harvest on day 5, not day 4.
Water planted crops every day for maximum growth. Unwatered crops can still advance when a growth stage is due: the base chance is 50%, and plot bonuses can change it. Watering avoids that random growth check. The day changes at midnight, even if the player does not sleep.
