Decorating
Decorating places furnishings and other supported objects in the world. Placeable possessions include cosmetic furniture and functional objects such as beds, journal desks and storage chests. The available placement area and interaction depend on the object.
Placement
Using a placeable item starts its placement interaction. The placement position must satisfy that object's permitted map or region restrictions. Indoor furnishings, outdoor objects and activity objects therefore do not all share the same allowed locations.
Placed objects become interactable world objects. An object with a service, such as a storage chest or journal desk, retains its associated interaction rather than serving only as scenery.
Furniture and services
| Object | Function |
|---|---|
| Brown Journal Desk | Opens the player's Journal of notes and mail. |
| Primary Storage Chest | Opens Primary Storage. |
| Beds | Provide bed commands, including Save, Sleep and Difficulty. |
| Pet House | Decorative furnishing; it does not replace the Pet Shop Kennel. |
Alternate interactions and pickup
Supported placed objects expose an alternate interaction with Control. Their menus can include pickup and object-specific actions. Picking up a placed object returns the associated possession only when its own pickup conditions are satisfied. Pet pickup, for example, requires room in the carried bag.
The list of available actions is determined by the object. Some objects have only a cosmetic interaction, while others open a service or have a multi-stage activity. Controls lists the default inputs.
Pets and farm objects
Pets can be placed and renamed through their pet interactions. Farm animals and their products instead belong to Husbandry. Equipment for farming and other activities can have its own placement restrictions and operating cycle.
House expansion
Klaus provides Farmhouse expansions. The first expansion costs 200 Wood and 3,000 Gold and takes two days; the second costs 150 Hardwood and 10,000 Gold and also takes two days. Their completion is associated with additional house services, including the Juicer and Tinker Desk.
The expansion request and availability depend on the corresponding progression notice. Furniture placement itself does not fulfil an unpaid expansion request.
Sources of furnishings
The Decoration Vendor and other shops provide furnishings and placeable objects. Individual item pages give acquisition and price details. The Redecorating task concerns a specific request rather than every use of the decorating system.
