Controls covers the default keyboard and gamepad inputs and the additional inputs used by particular interfaces. Gamepad names below use Xbox labels; the control configuration also supports other controller layouts.

Default bindings

Action Keyboard Gamepad (Xbox labels)
Up W, Up Up
Left A, Left Left
Down S, Down Down
Right D, Right Right
OK Enter, Space, Z A
Menu/Cancel Esc, X, / B
Sprint Shift X
Control (Turn in Place) Control, ctrl, alt, tab RT, LT
Seed Select Q LB
Inventory E, B RB
Map M No dedicated default button
Tasks T No dedicated default button

Movement accepts both the configured letter keys and the directional keys. OK confirms a choice or interacts with an object, while Menu / Cancel opens the menu or backs out of an interface. Map and Tasks are keyboard shortcuts without dedicated default gamepad buttons.

Interface and object controls

Context Input Function
World movement Control + direction Turn in place without moving; also exposes alternate interactions on supported placed objects.
Storage Hold OK / drag Select and drag items.
Storage Sprint Transfer a full stack.
Storage Control Choose a custom transfer quantity.
Quantity selection Left / right; hold Sprint Change quantity; accelerated adjustment uses steps of ten.
Inventory Drag outside the inventory or press Sprint Discard the selected item when allowed.
Journal OK while reading a letter with attachments Collect the attachments.

An input can have a different effect while a particular window is active. For example, Sprint transfers a full stack in storage but can discard an eligible selected item in the carried inventory. Object interactions also depend on the object: the alternate interaction used by placed furniture is not a universal command for every world object.

The world prompts label Seed Select, Items, Control, Map and Tasks. With the default gamepad layout, the left bumper selects seeds, the right bumper opens Items, and the triggers provide Control.

Configuration

Options → Control Config opens the configuration screen for keyboard and gamepad bindings. Selecting a binding waits for a new input; cancelling leaves the capture without accepting a new binding. It also provides a reset to the default configuration and a controller-layout selection.

The bindings above are defaults. A remapped key or a different controller layout can change the physical button used for the same named action.
