Grottos
Grottos are searchable openings that can appear on the Farm. Searching one resolves a luck-influenced outcome: a special encounter, an ordinary farm battle or a later monster visitor. These farm openings are distinct from ordinary mine floors.
Searching
The interaction asks whether to search the grotto. Declining leaves it unsearched. Accepting performs the search roll, resolves its outcome and removes that searched opening.
The score combines a random base with five times the modified die-roll total. Before the first completed grotto search, the base is drawn from 15–100; later searches use 5–100. Luck changes the die-roll contribution, so the final score is not restricted to the base range.
Search outcomes
| Adjusted search score | Result | Encounter / consequence |
|---|---|---|
| 101 or higher | Special-loot encounter | Treasure Goblin; a stronger variant is used after Old Woods news is unlocked. |
| 81–100 | Special-loot encounter | Treasure Goblin; the guaranteed-loot flag is set. |
| 41–80 | Ordinary grotto battle | Progression-dependent farm encounter, with guaranteed-loot flag set. |
| 21–40 | Delayed farm visitor | At day 10 or later, adds one monster to the farm visitor queue. Before day 10, uses the ordinary grotto battle instead. |
| 20 or lower | Delayed farm visitor | Same early-game protection and queued-visitor behavior as the 21–40 range. |
The special-loot results use a Treasure Goblin encounter. After Old Woods news is unlocked, the stronger Treasure Goblin variant replaces the earlier encounter. Ordinary grotto battles set the guaranteed-loot flag.
Ordinary encounters
Before the later progression change, the ordinary battle selects either a Cornstalker with two Bag of Tricks enemies or three Bird enemies. After Old Woods news is unlocked, the selection uses stronger variants and can combine Cornstalker with Bag of Tricks, Cornstalker with Bird, or Bag of Tricks with Bird.
The Enemies/Grottos catalogue supplies the maintained enemy and drop information. A successful search can therefore still resolve as a battle rather than a direct item pickup.
Early-game protection
On day 10 or later, the two lowest score bands add one monster to the farm visitor queue. Before day 10, those results instead use the ordinary grotto battle. The queued result concerns a later farm visitor rather than an immediate Treasure Goblin encounter.
The first-search base range and the early-game fallback are separate protections: one changes the random base, while the other changes the consequence of a low final score.
