The Fishing Contest is a recurring competition held twice each season after the Ancient Tree has been defeated. The objective is to catch the highest-scoring single fish before judging at 6 PM.

How the contest works

1. Fish anywhere at the Old Woods campsite on the 7th or 21st.
2. Keep trying to improve the best single-fish score recorded that day. Scores are not added together.
3. Speak to Herb to be judged early, or remain until the automatic judging at 6 PM.
4. The player's best score is compared with three competitors whose scores vary each contest.

The three competing scores fall within 150–180, 140–190, and 130–200 points. A score above 200 therefore guarantees first place.

Contest bait and shop

The campsite bait stand remains open during the contest. Bait Pack (Tier 2) is especially important because each pack contains 4–6 Lugworm along with other bait. Lugworms can be used at the campsite only while a contest is active and can hook contest-exclusive fish.

Only the best fish caught during the contest determines the player's score.

Tips

• The score is not cumulative; catching many low-value fish does not beat one exceptional fish.
• A Void-quality Ancient Manta or Aetherfin scores 210 points and is always enough to beat the possible competitor range.
• Buy Tier 2 Bait Packs early enough to equip Lugworms and make several attempts before 6 PM.
• Judging early ends the player's fishing time, so do so only when satisfied with the recorded score.
