Equipment Upgrading

Equipment Upgrading applies material effects to weapons and armor at the Workshop anvil. An upgrade changes the selected equipment's statistics or effects and increases its displayed + level. It is separate from Forging, which produces equipment through recipes.

Upgrade interface

The anvil first selects an upgrade material, then a compatible equipment slot and piece of equipment. Both carried and equipped equipment can be eligible. Materials without an upgrade effect and equipment marked as unsuitable cannot be selected for the corresponding upgrade.

The material determines the effect and the acceptable equipment range. A weapon material is not automatically usable on every armor or accessory. The interface's preview shows the resulting changes before the upgrade is applied.

Material entries describe the supported stat or effect changes. A fixed stat increase adds its stated amount. A percentage-based stat increase is calculated from the equipment's current value and rounded to a whole amount. Rate effects add percentage points rather than multiplying the whole rate; elemental resistance effects reduce the corresponding damage rate.

Accepted upgrade levels

Current displayed equipment level Range check Result of one accepted upgrade
+0–+5 Materials restricted to the lower range accept +5 but reject +6 or higher. The displayed level increases by one; an upgrade applied at +5 produces +6.
+0–+10 Materials using the wider range accept +10 but reject +11 or higher. An upgrade applied at +10 can produce +11.
+5–+9 Materials requiring the upper range reject below +5 and reject +10 or higher. An upgrade applied at +9 produces +10.

These ranges describe the level before the material is applied. Consequently, the lower-range check can accept +5 and produce +6, and the wider check can accept +10 and produce +11. There is no single +10 ceiling shared by all upgrade materials. Upper-range materials instead accept +5 through +9 and can produce +10.

The + level already present on a forged equipment variant is included in the displayed level used by the range check.

Copies of equipment

Upgrade changes are shared by copies of the same equipment variant in the current game. Applying an upgrade to one copy changes the corresponding equipment record used by other copies, including equipped copies. Separately forged variants remain distinct equipment: an ordinary weapon and its separately listed + variant are not the same record.

Removing an upgrade

A Clear Gem removes the latest applied upgrade from the selected weapon or armor. It reverses that upgrade's recorded changes and reduces its added upgrade level by one. It cannot remove the equipment variant's original forged + level.

The gem is consumed on a successful removal. The removed upgrade material is not returned. Removing upgrades therefore follows their application history rather than allowing an arbitrary older effect to be selected.
