Day/Night Cycle
The day/night cycle controls the clock, date, midnight transition, crop updates, scheduled events, and missed-sleep progression. A full in-game day lasts about 20 minutes while time is running.
How it works
Time continues whether or not the player sleeps. At 12:00 AM, the date advances and a Moon Event occurs automatically. The player does not need to be in bed for midnight to happen.
Many menus, conversations, transitions, and scripted sequences pause the clock. The stated real-time length therefore describes a day during uninterrupted play rather than a guaranteed amount of elapsed real time.
Midnight
The midnight transition performs daily maintenance, advances crops and scheduled events, updates shops and other daily systems, applies missed-sleep progression, and rolls the night's Moon Event. The moon then determines which additional world-reset effects occur.
| Process | Happens every midnight? | Important distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Date and daily schedule advance | Yes | Does not require sleeping. |
| Crop and daily-system updates | Yes | Individual crop growth still depends on that crop and its modifiers. |
| Moon Event | Yes | The selected moon decides any additional effects. |
| Missed-sleep counter | Yes, when the player has not slept | Can add cumulative fatigue states. Sleep clears the counter. |
| Monster respawn | No | Triggered by specific moons, Bathing, sleep outcomes, and other reset effects. |
| Mystery reset | No | Uses its own reset call and is not the same as resource regeneration. |
| Resource and mine regeneration | No | Triggered by Harvest and Soul Moons and by a weekly-ready rest reset. |
| Random Sleep Event | No | Only occurs when the player chooses to sleep and no story dream takes priority. |
Sleep and midnight
Sleeping and midnight can occur during the same night, but they are separate systems. Sleeping is available from 6:00 PM through 5:59 AM and normally wakes the player at 9:00 AM. If midnight has not yet occurred, advancing to the morning crosses midnight and the Moon Event still runs as part of the time transition.
Remaining awake does not stop the date from changing. Instead, repeated missed nights build the sleep-deprivation sequence described on Sleep.
World resets
World-reset effects are deliberately independent:
| Reset source | Monsters | Mysteries | Resources and mines | Player recovery / states |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bathing | Respawn | Reset | Only when the weekly-ready resource reset is available | Full HP/MP; clears most ordinary Blessings and Curses |
| Blood Moon | Respawn | Reset | No | No general full recovery |
| Harvest Moon | No | No | Regenerate | No general full recovery |
| Soul Moon | Respawn | Reset | Regenerate | Full recovery and ordinary status clearing |
| Darkness Multiplies sleep outcome | Respawn | Reset | No | No separate full recovery from this outcome |
