Combat Shrines

Combat Shrines allow the player to spend Combat Offerings to empower enemies in a particular area. Empowered enemies are stronger, leave searchable corpses more often, and can award a separate pool of special or unique loot.

Each area keeps its own shrine level. Raising the Mall shrine does not raise the Old Woods or Catacombs shrine.

Unlocking

Combat Shrines become active after defeating the Hall Monitor in the Mall F1 Hallway. Before that victory, a shrine remains dormant and will not accept offerings.

Locations

Area Location Map coordinate Notes
Mall Mall 1, western side (5, 7) Controls empowerment for the Mall area.
Old Woods Old Woods Main 1, stair section (41, 31) Shares one Old Woods shrine level with the statue-section shrine.
Old Woods Old Woods Main 2, statue section (53, 42) Shares one Old Woods shrine level with the stair-section shrine.
Catacombs Catacombs F2 (24, 8) Controls empowerment for the Catacombs area.

Adding and removing offerings

Adding a Combat Offering consumes one offering and raises that area's shrine level by 1. A shrine can hold up to five offerings.

An offering may also be removed to lower the level by 1, but the removed offering is lost rather than returned. Hard and Nightmare difficulty impose minimum shrine levels, as described under Difficulty and resets.

Empowerment levels

The shrine describes each level as adding 20% enemy stats per offering:

Shrine level Offerings placed Listed enemy-stat increase Listed shrine multiplier Corpse-loot chance adjustment
0 0 None 100% None
1 1 +20% 120% +5 percentage points
2 2 +40% 140% +10 percentage points
3 3 +60% 160% +15 percentage points
4 4 +80% 180% +20 percentage points
5 5 +100% 200% +25 percentage points

The selected difficulty multiplier also applies, so the shrine percentage is not the enemy's complete final stat multiplier. Other enemy-specific states and modifiers can apply as well.

Current level 1–2 behavior

In the current build, the first two empowerment levels have difficulty-dependent adjustments that do not match the listed +20% per level. The shrine portion of the stat calculation currently behaves as follows; the ordinary difficulty multiplier still applies separately.

Difficulty Level 1 shrine multiplier Level 2 shrine multiplier Listed values
Cozy 80% 80% 120% / 140%
Easy 80% 80% 120% / 140%
Normal 80% 80% 120% / 140%
Hard 100% 100% 120% / 140%
Nightmare 100% 120% 120% / 140%

Levels 3–5 use their listed 160%, 180%, and 200% shrine multipliers on every standard difficulty. This makes levels 1 and 2 an important current-build exception when comparing damage or enemy stats.

Loot and rewards

Empowerment changes rewards in two ways:

  • Each shrine level improves the affected area's ordinary post-battle corpse-loot check by 5 percentage points.
  • A qualifying victory at shrine level 1 or higher also rolls the area's enhanced-loot table. Higher shrine levels unlock more entries, and stronger eligible enemies have better access to unique rewards.

Bosses receive the stat empowerment but do not award the shrine's unique bonus rewards. The Mall, Old Woods, and Catacombs each use a separate enhanced-loot pool.

Difficulty and resets

Dying or fleeing while inside an affected area resets that area's shrine. Other shrine areas keep their current levels.

Difficulty Minimum shrine level Level after death or fleeing in the area Manual removal limit
Cozy, Easy, Normal, or Custom 0 0 Offerings can be removed down to level 0.
Hard 1 1 The final level cannot be removed.
Nightmare 2 2 The final two levels cannot be removed.

A successful victory does not reset the shrine. Its level remains in effect until offerings are removed or an applicable death or escape reset occurs.

Practical use

  • Level 1 is enough to enable the area's enhanced-loot roll.
  • Higher levels improve the corpse-loot check and unlock more special rewards, but levels 3–5 also produce the largest reliable stat increases.
  • The two Old Woods shrine locations control the same value; use whichever is more convenient.
  • Consider the death-or-flee reset before spending several offerings at once.
