- “To learn the forbidden lore is to fade from this plane.”
- “Soon, I will be gone...”
- “More... I must know more...”
- “Through knowledge, I live.”
- “Can every book be read?”
- “Can everything be known...?”
- “I've heard rumors of a book that never ends.”
- “The back cover continues from the last page, and the front cover continues from there.”
- “And, back into the book again. On and on... forever.”
- “There is no riddle our master cannot solve.”
- “Even the riddle of life, and death...”
- “Say, did you know?”
- “There once was a human who knew all that they could learn.”
- “They travelled the world, in search of new knowledge, but at a certain point, could find none.”
- “This person was unnaturally old, but through the knowledge they had gained, had escaped death.”
- “Desperate for new knowledge, they sought to create their own.”
- “And so, this person lied.”
- “They travelled the world, spreading rumors, secrets and untruths. Tall tales about shadowy things in dark corners.”
- “Such was their desire for knowledge, that each lie they told came true.”
- “From nothing, new knowledge was born simply by speaking it.”
- “But... their tales were too bold. What started as tales of treasure and mystery became stories of new, unknown gods.”
- “The Old Gods did not appreciate these tales of new gods, which threatened to expand their pantheon if they became true.”
- “So, they cursed the human to ascend to godhood themself, and revoked their ability to turn lies into truth.”
- “And so it was that the human's lie of new gods became true, and Valtris was born.”
- “Or at least, that's how the story goes...”
